CHROMESHIELD 22 STAINLESS STEEL

CHROMESHIELD 22 Stainless Steel is a nickel-less, high chromium ferritic stainless steel with small copper and molybdenum additions that further enhance the corrosion resistance. The grade is dual stabilized with both titanium and columbium to improve weld corrosion performance.

CHROMESHIELD 22 Stainless Steel, an alternative to stainless steel 304, trumps stainless steel type 430 and type 441. In some environments, CHROMESHIELD 22 is even more corrosion resistant than 304 stainless steel. Applications for CHROMESHIELD 22 stainless steel include appliances, food service equipment, architectural applications, welded components, tubing, automotive and cookware. The material's characteristics include high corrosion performance and exceptional ductility. With the additions of titanium and noibium as well as copper and molybdenum, CHROMESHIELD 22 has an enhanced corrosion resistance.

CHROMESHIELD 22 is available in most gauges, in widths up to and including 48 in. and is available in 2D, 2B, and directional polished finishes. CHROMESHIELD 22 stainless steel is listed as an acceptable material for the food contact zone of restaurant equipment as stated under NSF International Standard 51.

Wedability

CHROMESHIELD 22 Stainless Steel is weldable by the gas tungsten arc, resistance spot welding and laser welding processes. Consider warming the part before forming along with low weld heat input for the best outcome. When comparing the most popular alloy(type 409), the CHROMESHIELD 22 is not known for having the best weldability.
